For a big portion of my life, I knew nothing about the world of massage. I had never had one, I didn’t know how to give one, and I wasn’t interested in learning. In fact, I lumped “massage” into a general category along with things like yoga, acupuncture, and meditation. I used to believe that you just have to live with discomfort because that’s how things were. It’s not like I was dying or anything so why would I turn to some kind of wacky alternative therapy that might cost a lot of money? Life is hard and sometimes you have to get used to the difficult parts rather than finding some fancy solution.
With this mindset, you can probably imagine that I was pretty tightly wound. I worked long hours, didn’t have a lot of free time on my hands, as and had family obligations as well. I had to commute almost 2 hours in total every day for my job, and that meant sitting in a car which took a toll on my back. My stress levels were through the roof, and I found myself increasingly tired as the day went on. And then one day, I got incredibly dizzy around lunchtime, and it never went away. When I would get up from the couch, I had a hard time balancing and the room would start to spin a little bit.
Of course since I was still stubborn, I was reluctant to see a doctor because I thought whatever it was, it would go away on its own. The two weeks later, and it was only getting worse. I had a hard time functioning at work, so if finally decided to see my family doctor. After a physical exam and a series of blood tests, he determined that the cause of my problem was stress. I was pretty surprised because I didn’t know that stress can manifest itself this way. I just thought it was something you felt inside, not something that can actually throw you off balance in a physical way.
My doctor prescribed a healthy dose of rest and relaxation, and he told me to explore different ways to lower my stress levels. In addition to telling me to exercise and improve my diet, he recommended a body massager for personal use. Normally I would have laughed at the suggestion, but I needed to get back to normal so I was willing to try everything. Going into it, I was probably the most skeptical person you could find. But when I actually tried out this massager, it was heaven!
I never realized how tense my body was and how much physical strain I was accumulating on a daily basis. It’s no wonder that I was beginning to break down, I was neglecting the very serious part of my overall health. I’m not saying that massage alone solved my problem, but it was a very important part in turning things around. Whether you use a back massager, a massage chair, or go for professional session, it can be one of the best ways to relieve stress both physically and emotionally. There is a reaction that happens when tension is released, and it can have a profound effect on your daily life. It can also play a vital role in preventing or treating some serious conditions that can otherwise be debilitating.
